We all know him as “Billy From Sugars,” his facebook moniker. You may know him as Billy Michelson, a 20+ year veteran of the industry and considered one of THEE best jocks in our business. It was a no-brainer to feature Billy in our first “Featured Panda” group of talented Djs on our new site. I asked Billy to share his history and being the one to never want, or ask for the spotlight he reluctantly gave me a few details. 🙂
I started djing with a 3rd class broadcast endorsement in 1979 at a rock radio station kncn in Corpus Christi, Texas. I moved to San Marcos Texas in 1981 to go to Southwest Texas State University. I got a djing job at a local club that turned into a management gig. My first topless gig was actually running strippers every other wednesday in the college bar i was managing in 1988 because they wanted more money to bring a dj from Austin. My first strip club gig was Dollhouse South in Austin, Texas, which became Ziegfeld’s Cabaret, and then Expose Gentlemen’s Club. I dj-ed at every topless bar in Austin over the next 10 years opening quite a few of them. I’ve been with my current company as a dj/mngr for 18 years, the last ten at sugars of San Antonio.
